Miaka tells him to leave her be, unwanting to cause him anymore trouble, but he says that it his duty to be by her side and protecting her. Accepting his words, Miaka falls and tells him she is too hungry to move and asks him to bring her a bag of candy from her horse. However, as soon as Tamahome leaves and heads for the horse, she runs off again, catching a wagon to the next village. Tamahome follows on her horse after sending Nuriko to report back to Hotohori about what happened . Hotohori, unable to abandon his responsibilities as the emperor of Konan, wants to send soldiers to search for Miaka but his advisors remind him that doing so would make the upcoming war worse.
