Sairou Map

Sairou (西廊国; Sairou koku) is one of the four empires in The Universe of the Four Gods

Sairou is the country protected by Byakko. It is in the west, and it is composed largely of desert and ruins, just like a war-torn country. But the three of the Byakko Seven who the warriors meet demonstrate the tiger's qualities in lots of ways. This is the country where Tomo creates the illusion, the Tomo's City of Mirages. Later on, the illusion is repelled. It is associated with strength and challenge; represents soldiers fighting a war for their country's sake stands for the blooming season.

Climate

Rather contradicting the other three countries, Sairou's climate is extremely hot because of the desert. It was once stated by Tasuki that a person can only go out in the night or else "the sun will toast" him.

Villages, Cities, and Important Places

Tomo's City of Mirages

Tomo's city of Mirages is an illusional town, created by Tomo in the middle of Sairou to distract Suzaku celestial warriors.

Arudo

Arudo is the capital city of Sairou. The young and recently enthroned Emperor, Nahido, lead the country from there.

Makan Village

Makan village is a village that is located in Sairou. This village is the village where Seiryuu celestial warrior Amiboshi live after he fell into a river and lost his memories in the original series.

Camp Ruins

Camp Ruins is an exclusive location, can be accessed only in Fushigi Yuugi DS and Fushigi Yuugi Suzaku Ibun. This is the place that has to be visited in order to acquire the Staying behind ending of the game. Located to the north of Makan village.

Daijin Temple

Daijin Temple is a monastery, located in Sairou and led by Miboshi. Located to the south from Camp Ruins and to the west from Makan village. This place is suspected to be the temple where Chiriko, as well as Tatara dies in the hands of Seiryuu celestial warriors.

A very similar temple is seen in the Byakko Senki manga, and it's the headquarters of the "Three Priests Alliance" cult.

Nado tribe village

Nado tribe village is one of the places located in Sairou. The village is first introduced in Fushigi Yuugi Byakko Ibun, as it is the main village of the manga's pilot chapter. It is a border village near to Kutou, and it is the place where Reipin alias Neiran lives with her abusive paternal family. Spellcasters and shape-shifting people are feared and abused by the villagers, which backfires badly on them when Neiran (a shapeshifter) snaps after a cruel breaking process and destroys the whole town, killing everyone in it.

Trivia

Amongst the four countries, Sairou is can be said as the unique one. Despite having Byakko as their Guardian God, it can be assumed that Sairou's people believe in more than one God since beliefs very similar to Buddhism spreads widely in Sairou. This causes a huge crisis at the start of the proper Byakko Senki story, since it has allowed the growth of a powerful cult known as the Sanga (Three Priests Alliance), which is led by a mysterious man known as the "Great Priest"; they directly antagonize the recently enthroned Emperor of Sairou, seeking to seize power within the lands.

The fact that Sairou's geography includes a desert implies that it's inspired by the Silk Road, the famous land route connecting Europe and Asia and going through places like Central Asia (the modern Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, etc.), Egypt plus the Middle East (like the actual Saudi Arabia), Persia (modern Iran, among others), the Mongol Empire (including what would later be the current Mongolia), and the North-West of China (including the modern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and places like the Gobi desert)
