Yoshie Okuda (奥田 義恵 Okuda Yoshie) is the mother of Takiko Okuda and wife to Einosuke Okuda. She is a minor character in Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden.

Character[]

Despite being frequently depicted in a tired, frail state due to her status as a terminal tuberculosis patient, Yoshie appears to be a warm, gentle, and kind woman. Her relationship to her only daughter, Takiko, is also shown to be one of deep, parental love. Although grateful for Takiko serving as her caretaker, Yoshie considers herself a burden on Takiko due to her illness.

Story[]

At the start of Genbu Kaiden, Yoshie is moved back to her childhood home in Morioka as her condition worsens. Takiko dutifully stays by her mother's side, tending to her in every spare moment of her time. Having been ill for an extended amount of time before moving back to Morioka, the dynamic between Takiko and Yoshie is one of routine and tenderness. This is in stark contrast to Yoshie's relationship to her husband, Einosuke, who is shown to be isolated in his study during her final weeks. Eventually, Yoshie succumbs to tuberculosis and Einosuke was not there to witness her death.

After her death, Yoshie is viewed in flashbacks and serves as Takiko's motivation to use the power of Genbu to in order to revive her. Yoshie's spirit also makes a brief appearance when it is put to rest by a ceremony that Takiko's friend Firuka performs.

Trivia[]
